Saving Mothers and Babies

Project Impact of $60,000

Saving the lives of mothers and babies in Africa through preventative health initiatives and education on child nutrition.

Human Kind Project believes that all babies deserve the best start in life and that every mother should have access to safe, clean health clinics, where they can deliver their babies under the supervision of trained health professionals.

In Sub-Saharan Africa alone, 162,000 women die every year from complications from pregnancy, labour and delivery and many mothers have to walk 25 kilometres or more to reach a safe place to give birth. We can change this.

Human Kind Project supports the ‘1,000 Days Program’ supporting healthy mothers and providing proper nutrition for babies during their vital first thousand days from conception until two years old.

You can help improve maternal health, provide vital health access for entire communities and save the lives of thousands of mothers and babies with Human Kind Project and our partners.

$60,000 can:

  • Help mothers to access to safe, clean health clinics so they can deliver their babies under the supervision of trained health professionals
  • Train 125 specialist Animators (local volunteer leaders) in educating mothers about the importance of antenatal care to ensure safe delivery of their babies
  • Train 12,000 mothers on feeding their babies locally available, nutritious food, and about the importance of breastfeeding

OUR DELIVERY PARTNER: THE HUNGER PROJECT

To reverse this horrific statistic, we support the ‘1,000 Days’ program for proper child nutrition – to ensure healthy mothers and babies in the 8 countries in Africa.

The first 1,000 days in a child’s development (from conception until the age of two) is crucial for proper mental and physical development. In fact, without proper nutrition for both mother and baby during this period, a child will suffer permanent stunting and malnutrition.

In 2016, 29,943 women accessed antenatal services and 4,945 births were attended by trained nurses at health clinics in Africa – thanks to global investment in The Hunger Project’s work. For more information, go to www.thp.org.au.
